Fife’s Balbirnie House is celebrating as an entire brigade this week, as the hotel is named as ‘Best-in-World’ by the international Haute Grandeur Awards, who have named the hotel as the Best Function Venue and best Country House Hotel on a global level.

In addition to the global titles, the hotel was also named as Europe’s Best Country Hotel and Best Wedding Hotel.

The achievement comes as a well-received reward for the hotel, who have had to overcome numerous obstacles as a result of the continuing coronavirus crisis, which has ravaged the hospitality industry this year.

In dedicating the 2020 awards ‘To the boys, girls, men and women who have made up our hotel brigade over the 3 decades’, as hands-on owners and company directors Nicholas and Gaynor Russell say, ‘We are once again so very proud to have been invited to represent Scotland in the global awards, and we are so very humbled by the results’.

Earlier in 2020, at The Scottish Hotel Awards Balbirnie House became Scotland’s Wedding Hotel of the Year, for the 14th time in sixteen years. As an organisation, Haute Grandeur are unable to find any hotel in any other country in the world, which has received anything comparable to the consistency of recognition that Balbirnie House has received in Scotland.

It is that context which has helped to pave the way for the four combined global awards.

The success follows two previous best-in-world awards for Balbirnie House during 2018 (Best Destination Wedding Retreat)  and 2019 (Best Destination Wedding Hotel).

Sitting adjacent to Markinch village as the centrepiece of stunning Balbirnie Park, the hotel has flourished in private ownership over 3 decades of personalised hospitality, with an ongoing focus on providing a truly unique backdrop for weddings, and private and corporate special events.

The hotel has hosted many a legendary and incredibly romantic occasion, extending into truly rock’n’roll partying as day to day routine. The most weddings ever catered for in a single year thus far is 165, although this is now expected to significantly increase when social distancing ends.
