The renowned five-star Edinburgh hotel announced that they will be reopening for paying guests on the 1st of August 2020 while adhering to social distancing and hygiene guidelines outlined by the Scottish Government.

Like most hotels in Scotland the hotel was closed since late March.

The announcement was made Monday the 8th June, the same date the hotel's iconic clock was restored to its usual 3 minutes fast, a step forward in bringing life back to The Balmoral.

Amazingly, the clock stopped working on the 13th April during lockdown, only the second time in a century that it stopped working for a long period of time. Since then, the clock which is controlled electronically, was showing the correct time only twice a day.

The only other time that the clock stopped working was in 2014, the first time in 108 years.

Watch the video shared on social media showing the clock being reset back to the correct time on Monday, the 8th of June.

On the 10th of June, the Scottish Parliament announced a “Provisional and conditional” date for tourism businesses to reopen: The 15th July. This date depends on circumstances and scientific advice at the time.
