Designed by 3DReid on behalf of George Capital, and working with Savills Planning, the scheme is located at the junction of West Nile Street and Bath Street within the Central Conservation Area, and delivers a 183 bed hotel development, featuring a bar and rooftop restaurant.
The development responds to the two distinct characters of the streets which it addresses. A solid base responds and engages with the surrounding city block, and a lighter construction to the upper levels acknowledges the marked change in scale from Bath Street to West Nile Street.
The scheme has evolved during the course of the planning process; both thanks to engagement with Glasgow City Council, and to the involvement of a hotel operator who wishes to bring their vibrant and lively brand to Glasgow.
Mark Lorimer, Associate Director at 3DReid, said:
“The planning consent is a fantastic result on a site with great potential, and certainly offered some interesting and stimulating challenges. We have really enjoyed working with George Capital and the design team, and we’re now very much looking forward to the next steps, and hopefully sharing a drink with the team in the rooftop restaurant at some point!”
Ruth Highgate, Associate Director at Savills Planning, commented:
“We are delighted that we have achieved this significant consent on behalf of George Capital, which will allow a vacant corner of the city centre to realise positive change and regeneration. Savills Planning has welcomed the opportunity to continue to work with officers at Glasgow City Council during this time, where effective online collaboration and good communication between all parties has been key.”
