One of Scotland's best known hotel groups is calling for nominations as it opens its doors to the unsung heroes of the Covid-19 pandemic with complimentary short breaks, spa treatments, afternoon tea and more throughout the autumn months.

Crerar Hotels is dedicating rooms across its portfolio of seven hotels in Nairn, Oban, Inverurie, Isle of Mull, Inveraray, Glencoe and Royal Deeside to ‘local heroes’ and essential workers including teachers, retail staff, refuse collectors, postal workers and farmers.

Each hero will be chosen following a public nomination process and will result in upwards of £25,000 being spent by Crerar Hotels to express its gratitude to those that kept Scotland going during Covid-19.

The lucky recipients will be rewarded with a complimentary Crerar Hotels gift voucher to be enjoyed at one of the group’s seven venues. Heroes will be able to choose from a wide selection of treats including the decadent afternoon tea, stress-relieving aromatherapy massages and overnight stays.

The ‘Local Heroes’ initiative comes following Crerar Hotels’ successful ‘Scottish Hospitality for NHS Heroes’ weekend, which saw the hotel group host over 380 NHS key workers for a complimentary weekend away with their families at the end of the summer.

In total, Crerar Hotels gifted nearly 2000 overnights stays to the NHS heroes to say thank you for all their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic – the first independently owned Scottish hotels group to host an initiative of this kind at a cost of over £250,000.

Chris Wayne Wills, CEO of Crerar Hotels, said:

“After the huge success of our ‘Hospitality for NHS Heroes’ weekend in August, we always knew that we wanted to extend our gratitude further and thank the often unsung heroes of this pandemic. We will be gifting £25,000 worth of Crerar Hotels gift vouchers to a selection of hand-picked individuals who have worked tirelessly to keep our country moving during the pandemic and we can’t wait to welcome them to our hotels.”

"Open to all key workers from shop workers to emergency response personnel and refuse collectors, we want to hear from the friends and families of the people who deserve a special treat so we’re calling for nominations of who you think needs a little escape. If you have a family member, friend or colleague who is a local hero and has gone over and above for the sake of others during the past few months, maybe they’ve worked all the way through without a break, please nominate them.”

Paddy Crerar CBE, Chairman of Crerar Hotels said:

“It’s been a hellish time for all and every business has taken a serious hit, with more challenging times likely to be faced. We are no different and yet it seems nothing by comparison to the personal sacrifice already given by NHS and essential workers. Every single day they looked after all of us and kept the country going,  so we’re ready to acknowledge this and say thank you in whatever way we can.

“In August we welcomed over 380 NHS heroes through our doors for our ‘Hospitality for NHS Heroes’ weekend and now we are turning our attention to the essential workers that have kept us fed, safe and connected.

“We are determined that we give recognition to this massive effort made by these good people. It’s little what we can do and I hope other hospitality businesses will join us to show the world just how good the spirit of Scotland really is. At Crerar, that’s what we will do, through authentic hospitality and this expression of gratitude to our essential worker heroes”
